Mexico Has an Olympic Ski Team and Their Outfits are Are Stealing The Show In South Korea

Mexico’s Olympic ski team in Pyeongchang may be small, but it is mighty. That will happen when Death is your companion on the slopes.

The country’s two Alpine skiers in the Winter Games are wearing fabulous outfits that carry a “Day of the Dead” theme, an homage to the country’s famous Dia de los Muertos, a holiday on which families and friends pray for and remember those who have died.

The outfits, which feature colorful, bejeweled and beflowered skulls on a black background, follow in the proud tradition of Hubertus von Hohenlohe, 59, who designed them and represented Mexico in six Winter Games. In Sochi in 2014, von Hohenlohe memorably wore a mariachi outfit, and in Vancouver in 2010, he went with a desperado look.

Von Hohenlohe also happens to be a prince as well as a skier, photographer, businessman, and a pop singer known as Andy Himalaya and Royal Disaster. His family reigned over a principality in what is now the northeastern of Baden-Württemberg in Germany until the early 19th century and he spends most of his time in Europe. He was eligible to compete for Mexico because he was born while his father, Prince Alfonso, was running a Volkswagen plant there; he failed in his attempt to become the oldest winter Olympian this year.

Rodolfo Dickson and Sarah Schleper are Mexico’s two competitors. Dickson was adopted from a Puerto Vallarta orphanage by Canadian parents and Schleper, who is from Vail and has competed for the United States, is married to a Mexican citizen and has dual citizenship.

“I don’t live in Mexico but I am very proud of the place where I was born,” Dickson told USA Today. “I really want to start something new. There are a lot of young guys in Colorado who could represent Mexico, so in a few years I hope there will be a big team and athletes capable of being really successful.”

That blurring of boundaries led Von Hohenlohe to write “Austin,” a protest song about President Donald Trump’s stance on securing the Mexico-U. S. border even as he sends a message about Mexico’s individuality with the skiers’ outfits.

“I am having a go at the idea that Trump is trying to build a wall and put a boundary between Mexico and the United States,” he told USA Today. “We go to the Olympics and (it’s) all peace and cheesy and ‘how much we love each other.’ And (yet) there is this very barbarian thing of putting up a wall. So, I made a song and it is coming out on exactly the day that we walk into the (opening ceremony) of the Olympic Games.”

Check out some of Hubertus’ outfits from previous Winter Olympics below.

18-Year-Old Latina Is Suing LAPD For Excessive Force After Dragged Off Train (Video)

Written by Aracelli Cruz

Bethany Nava, the 18-year-old that was dragged off the Los Angeles Metro by a police officer, says she is suing the LAPD for excessive force. On Jan. 22, Nava was riding the metro while on her way to pick up her new I.D. card when Sgt. Hutchings told her to take her foot off the seat. Nava said she complied and that Hutchings walked away but that he returned and told her to get off the train. The entire altercation was caught on video and went viral on social media.

In the video, Nava is visibly frightened and crying as the police is yanking her off the train. Another woman, Selena Lechuga came to her aid and cursed at Sgt. Hutchings. She too was arrested.

“I feel like my rights were violated. I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that this doesn’t happen to anybody else,” Bethany said in a press conference on Monday.

According to FOX News, Metro CEO Phil Washington issued a statement saying that he was “disappointed” after viewing the video, adding that police “encounter hundreds of conduct issues each day, and some of them are faced with very difficult situations,” he said. “But my hope is that we work to de-escalate situations as much as possible. The investigation is under way to gather all the facts, and until we have the complete story, we must not rush to judgment.”

LAPD Chief Charlie Beck appeared on ABC7 and said that people shouldn’t rush judgment based on the video.

Rapper, Chamillionaire, Takes to Social Media to Comment on Backlash for Helping Father Being Deported

Houston rapper, Chamillionaire, took to social media to comment on the criticism he’s received on his decision to help Jorge Garcia, the father-of-three who was being deported after living in the United States for almost 30 years.

When Chamillionaire emailed Free Press staff writer Niraj Warikoo, who broke the story of 39-year-old father who had lived in the United States since he was 10 years old, he did not expect Warikoo to tweet out his email. In fact he never heard back from the Detroit journalist.

Though Warikoo’s tweet has gained over 7,000 Retweets and 30,000 Likes, the ‘Ridin Dirty’ artist posted a video asking viewers whether they had insight on why the journalist did not respond. While he’s been reached out by news outlets for an interview, he believes it is all premature because he never got connected to the family. He says in the video below, “The reason I reached out via email and not Twitter is because I assumed the conversation would be private.”

Here’s Why ‘Coco’s Mexican-American Co-Director Can’t Get an Oscar Nomination

Coco, Pixar’s latest animated success, secured two Oscar nominations Tuesday: Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for “Remember Me.” The movie is seemingly the heavy favorite in the animated category, but if it wins, you won’t see Mexican-American co-director Adrian Molina pick up a statuette.

Instead, we’ll likely hear Lee Unkrich and Darla K. Anderson give speeches about the Día de Muertos film. Unfortunately, the Academy’s rules keep Molina from receiving a nomination.

“The designated recipient(s) must be the key creative individual(s) most clearly responsible for the overall achievement. A maximum of two persons may be designated as nominees, one of whom must be the credited director and the other of whom must have a producer credit.” Molina – who wrote the script and was later bumped up to co-director – is not listed as the film’s main director. That title goes to Unkrich, with Anderson, the film’s producer, receiving the second slot, leaving Molina on the outs.

Mexican Mother-Of-Two Believed to Have Been Murdered and Cooked on Ex-Husband’s Stove

A Mexican woman who disappeared more than a week ago is believed to have been killed, dismembered and cooked on a stove by her ex-husband.

The dismembered remains of 28-year-old Magdalena Aguilar Romero were found on Monday inside pots on a stove in Taxco in the state of Guerrero in southern Mexico.

Police say the victim’s ex-husband César López Arciniega is the prime suspect.

The mother-of-two’s remains were also found in plastic bags that had been stored in a refrigerator at a property owned by her ex-husband.

‘It is presumed that she was cooked,’ State security spokesman Roberto Alvarez said.

Romero was last seen alive on January 13 when she left her home in the city of Taxco.

She had said she would pick up her children at her ex-husband’s home in the afternoon but was never heard from again.

Mexican Police said they are still searching for Arciniega who is believed to have fled when he realized he authorities were closing in on him.

It is not yet clear if there is a motive.

Authorities say they are investigating Romero’s death as a ‘femicide’, or the killing of a woman when the motive is directly related to the victim’s gender.

According to a report last month by the Mexican government and the UN Women agency, murders of women in Mexico rose sharply over the last decade following two decades of declines during which the rate had fallen by half.

Salma Hayek Shares Tear-Jerking Message After Her 18-Year-Old Dog Dies

Having to say goodbye is by far the hardest part of being a pet owner. On Wednesday, Salma Hayek relived the pain of losing a four-legged child after her 18-year-old dog named Lupe passed away.

The Oscar-nominee shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram by posting a photo of herself cuddling with her furry friend.

“With my heart filled with love and pain I had to say goodbye to my Lupe. I am so grateful for the 18 years she enriched my life with her great spirit,” the Mexican star wrote, also sharing the same message in Spanish. “I have no words or tears to describe how much she meant to me. May she run free with my pack of dogs that are already waiting for her in dog heaven.”

During an appearance on the Ellen Degeneres show, the actress shared the story of when Lupe had escaped from her hotel room in the Bahamas and crashed a wedding. “One day, I arrive and they’re not there. And then I hear this screaming and big commotion. And I have to tell you that Lupe loves cake more than anything in the world. You don’t know how many birthday parties were ruined … and I was like, ‘Oh, my god, this sounds like a cake,” she hilariously tells the host. “I see the beautiful wedding cake in a little table with two chairs for the bride and the groom. Instead of the bride and the groom, there is Lupe and Angie sitting perfectly.”

Back in 2016, the Frida actress also mourned the loss of her dog, Mozart, after tragically being shot close to the heart. “I been mourning the death of my dog, Mozart who I personally delivered out of his mother’s womb. He was found dead in my ranch last Friday with a shot close to his heart. I am hoping that the Washington State authorities do justice to this wonderful dog whom in 9 years never bit or attacked anyone. He loved his territory and never strayed away…he was the most loving and loyal companion. He didn’t deserve a slow and painful death,” the 51-year-old told her followers on Instagram.

Mother Charges Her 5-Year-Old Daughter Rent To “Prepare” Her For “The Real World”

As a fully-fledged adult, I have been exposed to the real world and all that it encompasses on many occasions. Each time I have lusted after my youth, keen to be reunited with those halcyon days where I didn’t have a worry about anything.

There is something extremely appealing about being completely naive to everything. Can you imagine anything more ideal than being ignorant of politics, finances and adult relationships? How blissful would it be to devote your attention to nothing other than fun games, sleep and poking bugs into a glass jar?

But while we are all busy wishing for time to be reversed, one mother is working hard to prepare her daughter for the future.

Essence Evans is only too aware of how harsh this world is, which is why she has decided to teach her five-year-old daughter, Brooke, a lesson she’ll never forget.

Posting to Facebook, the Georgia-based mom explained how she makes her tiny tot pay $5 each week in rent. “This strategy not only prepares your child for the real world, but when they see how much real bills are they will appreciate you,” she wrote, explaining her decision.

But while people were quick to comment on her parenting plan (“Wow, what a moron. Let your kid be a kid and enjoy their youth before they have to spend the rest of their life worry about bills. I wouldn’t share this story with anybody because you’re a horrible parent,” wrote one particularly incensed user) they failed to see how the plan actually works.

“Every week she gets $7 in allowance,” Essence, a yoga instructor typed, before going on to say: “I make her give me $5 back. $1 for rent, $1 for water, $1 for electricity, $1 for cable and $1 for food. The other $2 she gets to save or do whatever she wants with.”

“I explained to her that in the real world most people spend most of their paycheck on bills with little to spend on themselves,” the mom continued.

However, she then went on to explain that the $5 rent isn’t as it seems. “Now, what she doesn’t know is the $5 is actually going away in her savings account which I will give back to her when she turns 18,” the savvy mom wrote. “So if she decides to move out on her own she will have $3,380 to start off.”

Essense ended her post by encouraging other mothers to “share” the message so that they too could start the same regime with their child.

Many were supportive of her plan. “You are brilliant for teaching this to your child in this way!” wrote one fellow mom, before adding: “I have done similar with my kids, and I am now the proud parent of two young ladies who know and respect what they can earn more than something given to them.”

Meanwhile, there were other users who didn’t see it the same way. “Its YOUR job to raise your child,” one user furiously typed, before going on to say: “Put the money in a savings account if you want, but no child should be made to feel that they should pay for what a parent should provide.”

Essence has now removed the post, which had been shared more than 313,000 in a few days, but it is unclear if her decision to do so was influenced by the mixed reviews her initiative received.

What do you think, has she given her daughter the best start in life she could possibly have? Or, is it wrong to charge her rent?
